Sativa

Sativa is the other main subspecies of the cannabis plant, scientifically known as Cannabis sativa. It’s often compared with Cannabis indica, and the two are known for having different effects, growth patterns, and appearances — although modern hybrids blur the lines.

Characteristics of Sativa Plants:

  • Tall and thin, with narrower leave
  • Generally take longer to grow and flower than indica
  • Thrive in warmer climates (originally from regions like Southeast Asia, Africa, and Central/South America)

Effects (commonly reported, but vary by strain):

  • Typically described as energizing, uplifting, and cerebral
  • Often associated with a “head high” or mental stimulation
  • Commonly used for:
  • Daytime use
  • Boosting creativity or focus
  • Managing depression or fatigue
